FreshFind is a Canadian-based startup that focuses on making local products more accessible. The company operates by collaborating with local producers such as farmers, artisans, chefs, and artists, as well as partnering with markets. Their objective is to enhance the availability of fresh and locally sourced goods to consumers. From May to September 2023, I held the position of product design intern, engaging in a collaborative environment alongside skilled product designers, interns, and user researchers. Throughout the internship duration, my main responsibilities focused on executing user research initiatives, conducting comprehensive user testing sessions, and carrying out interviews. In conjunction with these tasks, I diligently documented observations and key insights derived from the interviews and user testing sessions. This experience allowed me to contribute actively to the product design process and further develop my skills in user-centered research and testing methodologies.
I had the privilege of being immersed in a supportive and conducive environment that fostered my professional development and advancement. Collaborating with highly skilled designers, interns, and user researchers was a constant source of inspiration, witnessing their unwavering dedication and meticulous approach to their craft. My time at FreshFind will always hold a special place in my memories. It was a transformative experience that boosted my confidence in my abilities, and I feel like a changed person because of it.
Upon successful completion of the internship, my proficiency in conducting user research experienced a substantial improvement, leading to enhanced confidence in this specific skill set. Throughout the internship, I was provided with a predetermined script to guide the process of user tests and interviews, deviating from my previous practice of conducting tests without a structured framework. As I progress, my intention is to develop and employ my own scripts for future user tests. Additionally, I was responsible for organizing the outcomes of the user tests and interviews within a FigJam file, utilizing predefined categories such as facts, insights, and opportunities. Going forward, FigJam will serve as my preferred tool for organizing and documenting findings from user tests and interviews.
